Hand Printed Cards
For quite some time I've been thinking about how to branch out in a different direction, and pursue a new artistic path that isn't solely dependant upon pressed flowers. Pressed flowers will always be a passion of mine (their beauty will always amaze me), but planting the flowers, nurturing them, pressing them, sorting them, storing them, and ultimately using them is a very labor intensive process, and there is a limit to how far I can go with them, and still do it all myself.
A short time ago I happened upon the notion of carving my own botanical stamps, based on my own flowers, herbs, and botanical gatherings, and using them to hand print a new line of cards. This type of carving is known as "soft block carving."
I am still very much in the learning stage, but I'm greatly enjoying this new experience. Below is the first botanical stamp I carved, and the hand printed image is on the card above. I'm still experimenting with different types of inks, cardstocks, and handmade paper. I hope to have a new line of hand printed cards ready to go by Easter, so please check back then.
